Ultrasonic Testing
A fast and economical way to detect internal rail defects is by ultrasonic scanning. In spite of their limited speed and range, conventional road-rail vehicles are widely recognised as a highly flexible complement to large and fast inspection trains. Our scanner is mounted on a road-rail vehicle that can match the performance of these trains, scanning at 80 km/h without impeding regular traffic, while still offering superior mobility.A Mercedes-Benz Actros truck was fitted with state-of-the-art rail gear for maximum ride and scanning quality. A turn-table system allows the truck to turn around in its own length and enables re-railing on very narrow level crossings. The scanning probes are mounted on a special bogie that trails the carrier vehicle. It can operate without limitations, even through switches and crossings, and it is fully compatible with axle-counters and track circuits. For road-transit the scanning unit can be stowed vertically in the rear bay.
